Korean People's Air Force Deploys for Drills Near Border

KPAAF conducts air-to-surface firing exercises

North Korea's air force remains a formidable force

The Korean People's Army Air Force (KPAAF) has deployed combat aircraft for air-to-surface firing drills near the North Korean border, according to South Korean officials. This is the latest in a series of military exercises by North Korea, which has been ramping up its military activity in recent months.

The KPAAF is the second-largest branch of the Korean People's Army, with over 100,000 members. It operates a wide range of combat aircraft, including MiG-29s, Su-25s, and Il-76s. The KPAAF has not acquired a new combat aircraft in more than 30 years, but it is believed to have a significant number of older aircraft in storage.

The KPAAF is a formidable force, and its deployment for drills near the border is a sign that North Korea is preparing for a possible conflict with South Korea. North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been paying more attention to the KPAAF in recent years, and he has ordered the development of new weapons systems for the air force.
