Justice Clarence Thomas of the United States Supreme Court has returned to his duties on the bench after being briefly hospitalized for an infection. The Court confirmed that Justice Thomas was diagnosed with an infection but that it was not related to COVID-19.
Justice Thomas missed arguments in two cases on Monday, April 16, without explanation. The Court later issued a statement saying that he had been hospitalized but providing no further details.
Justice Thomas, 74, has served on the Supreme Court since 1991. He is the second African American justice to serve on the Court. He is known for his conservative views and often casts the deciding vote in closely contested cases.
The Court is currently considering several high-profile cases, including a challenge to the Biden administration's vaccine mandate. It is unclear how Justice Thomas's absence from the bench will affect the Court's deliberations in these cases.
